Siksha ‘O’ Anusandhan Deemed to be University (SOA), Bhubaneswar, since its inception in 2007 has been at the forefront of nourishing a learning ambience, encouraging academic research and innovations, and developing well qualified people in all domains. It has been accredited by NAAC (3rd Cycle) with ‘A++’ Grade and has been ranked as 14th best University in the country by NIRF India Rankings 2024. Besides, it has also been ranked 26th in Engineering, 21st in Medical Science, 09th in Dental Science and 09th in Law Categories by NIRF India Rankings 2024.

It has been ranked internationally in 801-1000 ranking bracket by THE World University Ranking-2024. Apart from this, it has also been ranked in the bracket of 401-500 in Engineering, 601- 800 in Computer Science and 801+ in Health Science by THE World University Ranking-2024.

It has been ranked internationally in the bracket of 1201-1400 by QS world university ranking of 2024, besides being ranked in 501-550 ranking bracket in QS Asia University Rankings 2024 and 143 by QS Southern Asia University ranking of 2024.

Engineering, Management, Pharmacy and Hotel Management Programs have been accredited by National Board of Accreditation (NBA), Govt. of India. The Faculty of Agricultural Sciences and its undergraduate programme – B.Sc. (Hons.) Agriculture have been accredited by Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR). The Faculty of Medical Science has been accredited by NABH and the laboratories by NABL.

SOA has been recognized as Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (SIRO) by Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR), Govt. of India and has also received UGC Section 12(B) status. It has been awarded Dimond University Rating for outstanding performance by QS-I-GAUGE and is recognized as Institution of Happiness (IOH) in the University & College category by QS-I-GAUGE.


ADMISSION TO PH.D. PROGRAMME:

Admission to Ph.D. programme for July 2023 session is open to FULL TIME and PART TIME research scholar applicants, in the Faculties of Engineering, Pharmaceutical Science, Medical Science, Dental Science, Biotechnology, Nursing, Management, Hospitality and Tourism Management, Law and Agricultural Science. Besides, the Ph.D. program is also open to different Departments of Sciences, Humanities and Social Sciences. Ph. D. students will also be admitted to different centers such as Center of Excellence in Theoretical and Mathematical Science (CETMS), Center for Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, Center of Biotechnology, Biofuels and Bioprocessing Research Centre, Centre for Data Science, Centre for Internet of Things, Centre for Climate Smart Agriculture  and others. CETMS is primarily focusing on conducting advanced theoretical and experimental research.

GENERAL INFORMATION

  1. Applications are invited for admission into Ph.D. Research Programme offered by SOA Deemed to be University in the subject areas and meeting eligibility criteria as indicated in Appendix-I.

  2. Candidates admitted into Full-time Ph.D programme should not undertake any assignment/
     employment or shall not pursue any other full-time programme of study simultaneously.

  3.  SOA reserves the right to admit or not to admit the candidates into any research programme

HOW TO APPLY

  1. Candidates have to submit application online www.soa.ac.in. For details and instructions, please visit SIKSHA ‘O’ ANUSANDHAN web site: www.soa.ac.in.

  2. After the online application form is filled up and submitted, a form will be generated, and it will be available in your mail. You have to submit a print out of this form along with all supporting documents in the Office of Dean (Research & Development).

  3. Eligible candidates will be informed for Entrance Test and Personal Interview through Email ID phdregistration@soa.ac.in.

  4. Dean (Research & Development) office will not take any responsibility for non-receipt of the applications in time.

ADMISSION INFORMATION

  • Admission shall be based on the marks secured in the online Entrance Test and Physical Personal Interview, subject to the fulfillment of the eligibility criteria and the rules of reservation.

    Candidates belonging to following categories are exempted from appearing the Entrance Test, but need to appear Personal Interview.

    • Valid JRF in UGC-Net/UGC-CSIR NET.

    • Valid GATE/ GPAT.

    • M.Phil. Degree.

  • The following certificates (photocopy) are to be submitted along with online application

    • Date Birth (SSC/ Matriculation or Equivalent certificate).

    • All certificates and mark sheets from 10th standard onwards (including M.Phil. Degree if applicable).

    • JRF certificate in UGC-Net/UGC-CSIR NET/ ICMR/ICAR/ ICSR, if applicable.

    • Certificate/Score card of GATE/ GPAT/ SLET/ teacher Fellowship, if applicable.

  • The following Certificates (in original) are to be presented at the time of personal interview and admission for verification:

    • Date Birth (SSC/ Matriculation or Equivalent certificate).

    • All certificates and mark sheets from 10th standard onwards (including M.Phil. Degree if applicable).

    • JRF certificate in UGC-Net/UGC-CSIR NET/ ICMR/ICAR/ ICSR, if applicable.

    • Certificate/Score card of GATE/ GPAT/ SLET/ teacher Fellowship, if applicable.

    • Transfer and Conduct certificate from the Institute where the candidate last studied.

    • Migration Certificate (for candidates from other than the SOA Deemed to be University).

    • Integrated community certificate issued by the competent authority in case of SC/ST candidates.

    • Medical Certificate from not below the rank of a Civil Surgeon in case of differently abled.

    • Physical Fitness certificate.

    • Service certificate and “No Objection” certificate from the present employer (for part-time candidates only).

      (Originals of Conduct certificate, Migration certificate, Integrated community certificate, Medical Certificate, Physical Fitness certificate and No Objection Certificate are to be submitted along with photocopies)

SELECTION PROCESS

Eligible candidates will be intimated to appear the ONLINE Entrance Test. Candidates who secure 50% or more marks in the entrance test will be called for Personal Interview. Final selection will be based on the total mark secured by taking 70%  weightage of entrance test and 30% weightage for the performance in personal interview. Candidates who are exempted from appearing the written test will be called for personal interview only.

  1. The duration of the Entrance Test is two hours.

  2. The questions for the Entrance Test are multiple choice type.

  3. Entrance Test will have 50 questions from Research Methodology and 50 questions from relevant branch. Each question carries 1 mark.

  4. Personal Interview will have 40 marks for the interview, 20 marks for research publication, 20 marks for career and 20 marks for a research proposal write up.

  5. The dates for Entrance Test, Personal Interview as well as other dates will be made available in the University website.

FELLOWSHIP FOR FULLTIME SCHOLARS:

University fellowship will be awarded to deserving fulltime research scholars for a duration of three years. Performance of the scholar will be reviewed periodically for continuation of fellowship.

  • A Non-Judicial Bond is to be submitted by the Scholar getting fellowship stating that he/she will be available in the working hours of the university till submission of Thesis, and that he/she will refund the awarded amount if he/she discontinues from Ph.D. programme.  


DETAILS OF ENTRANCE TEST

  • The duration of the Written Test is two hours.

  • Written test is having 50 percent weightage. It contains 50 questions from Research Methodology and 50 questions from relevant branches.

  • Personal Interview is having 50 percent weightage. It contains 20 percent weightage for personal interview, 10 percent weightage for research publication, 10 percent weightage for career and 10 percent weightage for a research proposal write up.

The merit list for admission shall be prepared on the basis of marks obtained together in the entrance test and interview.
